Instincts and Self Esteem are at the roots of most long term mental issues
The Crux of the problem is:-
Instincts demand an action.
Low self esteem inhibits action.
Depression and Anxiety brief overview
• Low self esteem leads to being overly passive.
• We get stuck in bad situations.
• Our instincts sense danger and prepare us for action.
• We do not react adequately enough to the situation for our instincts to come off alert.
• Eventually we get tired and run down.
• Our instincts lose faith.
• Anxiety follows, then the other symptoms.
There is no miracle cure to long term depression.
Its an ongoing journey towards self understanding and discovery.
The road can be hard but also very rewarding giving you self insights and empathy that most people do not have.
Note:-
The above is a simplified and generalised explanation.
Each person is different.
The key is to start to understand yourself.
See repeated patterns of behavior and change them for the better.

The road to recovery brief overview
• Realise the issues you have been covering up for so long
• Take action and react
• Steadily and patiently work it all out
• If necessary learn how to not over react or under react. Practice and get better at this.
• See how your deeper levels start to regain confidence in yourself again.
• Live in the way our instincts want us to live. Socialise, express feeelings, set goals and achieve them. If something seems unrealistically scary think about why and try to overcome this.
• Be kind and nurturing to yourself. Praise yourself for doing good work.
• Be self disciplined. Keep moving forward. This is an ongoing and satisfying journey. Eventually make it fun.
