Uknown causes of depression.
Have you ever visited a farm yard that smells of animal waste?
Ask the farmer how he can stand the smell and he says ‘what smell’.
He has been around that smell for so long that his brain has neutralised it.
Over time all brains do the same.
This works the same for stress, abuse and many other difficult circumstances we endure for long periods.
The conscious in the present part of our brains see this has gone on for so long that it just has to be endured. The pain becomes disguised. After a while we forget it was ever there.
However our deeper instinctive and emotional levels of consciousness carry on feeling the pain. Our instincts are always evaluating our circumstances self safety level. Our instincts sole purpose is to keep us alive and reproducing and they are very good at this task.
If the pain we are not noticing continues or increases our instincts put us on alert, even if we are no longer aware of this. We are in a state of readiness to take physical action, to fight or run. This is like revving an engine in readiness to make a fast getaway. If the engine continues to be revved it will wear out. The same is true of us. Our emotions, or instincts let this be known to us by making us feel anxious or depressed. The problem is that if the causes have been ignored and hidden by ourselves we feel bad but have no idea why.
To find out why takes some disciplined self introspection. Take subjective and honest comparisons with others. Maybe talk to a good balanced friend. Discuss things that happen in your life that may not happen in theirs If you do not want to discuss these things with friends see a therapist or email us. We can consult via email and go through your issues.
